Adult Ministries

Bible Website Banner

Our adults enjoy a rich time of Bible study and fellowship on Sunday mornings in conjunction with corporate worship. Our classes are open to everyone, so you’re encouraged to try different ones until you have found the class that’s right for you. Classes cover a variety of materials from Beth Moore studies, Explore the Bible, Bible Studies for Life, Masterworks, and others.

Adult Small Group Bible Studies

Small group Bible studies at our church provide a way to discover God’s Word through knowledge, understanding and application. Bible study classes are available for every age group and life situation. Small group Bible studies help guests, new members or regular attenders connect with others going through similar life situations during class time and fellowship opportunities. Small group Bible studies provide a way to engage in ministry by participating in service and mission projects.Join us today to learn more about God’s Word and make new friends through our small group Bible studies. Additional Bible studies are offered during the spring and fall semesters on campus and in the future through home Bible study groups. Take a look at the Building Map to see where your classes are being held.

Mission opportunities and service projects

First Baptist Church encourages members to engage in mission opportunities, service and ministry projects. We provide opportunities for people to engage based on their interest or giftedness. Below is a list of opportunities:

Incarcerated Men at the Doña Ana Detention Center

Volunteers lead Bible studies with inmates, seeking to share the gospel with inmates and the hope found in Jesus Christ. Volunteers help with Kairos Prison Ministry at So. New Mexico Penitentiary, and help provides gifts, clothing etc. for the Hospitality House for families of inmates.

Incarcerated Women’s Ministry

IWM offers various ways to impact women for Christ during their time of isolation and vulnerability. Under the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, our volunteers reach women during their incarceration by offering Bible studies, one-on-one counseling, or assisting in the Chaplain’s office. They can also help by writing letters/cards to inmates, praying daily for them, or donating Bibles, devotionals, and Christian novels to the jail.

Mission Trips – Regional and International

Volunteers participate in a variety of mission opportunities through construction projects, backyard Bible clubs, distributing Bibles, disaster relief with the BCNM, evangelism events and whatever the need will be for new mission churches in Las Cruces, Doña Ana county or the state of New Mexico. Check the Missions page for upcoming trips and opportunities to help.

Women’s Missionary Union (WMU)

The WMU is a group of local Christian women who have embraced a heart for mission support. They lead the charge in the promotion of mission awareness throughout the church year. In addition, they host numerous mission speakers and engage in monthly local mission projects.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matt. 25:40)

“Jesus said the poor you will always have” First Baptist Church members volunteer in feeding the homeless, leading Bible studies, and ministering to the needs of the residents staying at the
Gospel Rescue Mission.

Children’s Ministry

Stay Connected

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. Luke 2:52
A Bible-based curriculum is taught to children on their level of understanding. Our goal is to help you, as parents, prepare children to become productive members of the church body by providing children with an opportunity to learn God’s word both in small group Sunday school setting and in corporate worship by attending the church service with their parents.

 Waumba Land:

Waumba Land® is our Sunday morning environment created especially for infants (six weeks old) through preschoolers. We know that young children learn and grow in amazing ways. Every Sunday, we take advantage of this unique time of their lives to introduce them to their loving Heavenly Father.
We believe nothing is more important than for children to begin to understand who God is. We
want them to know him as their Creator, their Heavenly Father, and their Friend. Our goal is for
all preschoolers to master three key truths before they leave Waumba Land:
God Made Me – God Loves Me – Jesus Wants To Be My Friend Forever
Waumba Land is available during all services on Sunday mornings.
Childcare is available in Waumba Land during Wednesday night Connections at 6pm.

UpStreet Logo

In UpStreet, we believe the Bible should never be boring, worship can be really loud, and good leaders always care. Before kids head off to middle school, we want to make sure these three things stick:
1. I need to make the wise choice.
2. I can trust God no matter what.
3. I should treat others the way I want to be treated.
The focus on UpStreet is our small group environment. We want kids to see how God’s Word fits in to their lives, to learn how to talk to him, and to build friendships that will last. That’s why it’s important to make sure your child connects with the same friends and same leader at the same hour—EVERY SUNDAY! UpStreet is available during all services.

College Ministry

Anchor ministries is a community of college students and young adults new to the career field. We are centered on Jesus and the Bible. We seek to glorify God in all we do whether it be enjoying a meal together, playing sports and games, or studying God’s word. We would love for you to be a part of our family!
We meet Sunday nights for Bible study at 7:30pm at the Sonoma campus.

Music Ministry

Our worship ministry exists to lead people of all ages to grow in knowledge of who God is, to discover what He has done to redeem us, to lead them to personally encounter His Holiness as we offer back to God our lives in worship to Him. We invite you to explore the various ways you may participate and join our team of lead worshipers.

Sanctuary Choir Sundays

Our sanctuary choir provides ministry for the 8:30am Traditional Service. The choir is made up of voices ranging in age from young adult to senior adult. The choir is active in leading in worship services as well as presenting special seasonal musical presentations throughout the year. The choir uses a variety of musical styles as they lead in worship each week. New singers with a desire to use their voices to worship God are invited to join the choir. No Audition is necessary. Simply commit to weekly rehearsals that meet in the choir loft of the Worship Center.

Senior Adult Choir Wednesdays 4pm

The senior adult choir is for any senior age fifty and above who enjoys music. The choir periodically sings in the worship services, at statewide meetings, community activities, nursing homes, and in other churches. The rehearsal hour is a time for musical fellowship as we sing everything from the “Oldies” to the “New”. Weekly rehearsals meet in the choir room.

Middle School & High School

We really strive to teach Biblical basics that go beyond Bible stories to real life application and understanding. Leadership and discipleship are two of the main focuses we go after with your students. We stress missions and have had many of our students go to minister in places such as NM, CO, AZ, Thailand, Guatemala, and Uganda.

Youth Leaders

Our youth ministry is extremely blessed to have the high quality of leadership that we do. Our leadership team is made up of college students, young adults, and experienced married couples that LOVE students and give their all to see them grow spiritually. They all share the same calling and passion to teach God’s Word with boldness.
