Business information and announcements for FBC Las Cruces

Children's Minister

The Personnel Committee and Dr. Burrows are recommending that First Baptist Church call Heather Thatcher as full-time Minister to Children on July 28, 2021, at our regular church business meeting.  If called, Heather begins serving on August 1.  During the business meeting, church members will have an opportunity to ask Heather, Dr. Burrows, and the Committee questions.

FBC will also host Heather at a “meet and greet” on Saturday, July 24 from 5-6 pm in the Commons.  All are invited to come and meet Heather and ask her any questions they may have, especially ones they want to ask in private.  You can also talk to Heather on Sunday, July 25, in the Commons between services.

Heather and her husband, David, have four biological children, all grown, and three-year-old Elijah, who they adopted in 2021. Two of their grown children are married.  David and Heather have been married for 29 years. David works for the USDA.   David and Heather are licensed, foster parents.

Heather has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Language Arts Endorsement from New Mexico State University (1996), and a

Master of Arts in Children’s and Family Ministry from Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota (2018). She served as Children’s Ministry Director for sixteen years at Calvary Baptist Church in Las Cruces.  During her time at Calvary, Heather spent fourteen years as director or co-director of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico Children’s Camp.

Heather enjoys playing softball with family and friends, camping, hiking, running, and doing some crafts.

We encourage you to take the opportunity to get to know Heather and David.
