Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of First Baptist Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community and spreads overseas to every nation. In order to help accomplish this, we offer a variety of ministries for a variety of ages.
Our adults enjoy a rich time of Bible study and fellowship on Sunday mornings in conjunction with corporate worship. Encounter – Wednesdays 6:15-7:30pm
Come and experience a whole new way of approaching our Lord. Wednesdays at 6pm starts a time for personal reflection and devotion to intercede on behalf of others and to pray with one of the ministers of the church. At 6:15pm the corporate time of prayer begins. Together we praise God. We ask Him to us how to walk closer to Him. We lift up our needs and the needs of others. This is followed by a time of spiritual preparation to face the world. Finally, we return to a closing time of praise and adoration. This is a worship-based approach to corporate prayer. Childcare provided, along with Kids In Action for grades 1-5.
Organized in 1899, First Baptist Church has grown from meeting in people’s homes and rented buildings, to having its first church building in 1913. We have helped several churches throughout the valley get their start and we maintain a mind for missions.

Applicants should meet the position requirements as reflected in the church’s “pastor profile”. Send resume or referral letter to Pastor Search Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org (electronic submissions are encouraged), or mail to Pastor Search Committee, First Baptist Church, 106 S. Miranda, Las Cruces, NM 88005.
The pastor profile presented below was developed by the Pastor Search Committee – relying principally on scripture, but with consideration of preferences expressed in a congregational questionnaire — for use in publicizing the Senior Pastor vacancy. The characteristics described below are intended to provide guidance to both the Pastor Search Committee and to those who may wish to either apply for the senior pastor position or refer candidates to the Pastor Search Committee.
The next pastor of First Baptist Church of Las Cruces will evidence the characteristics outlined in the Scripture, e.g., 1 Peter 5:1-4;1 Tim. 3:1-7; etc., for a Christian leader. He will be a man of vision, spiritual discernment, and leadership who joyfully accepts his responsibilities as pastor. He will lead the church in fulfilling the Great Commission.
He will have the gift of preaching, be an effective communicator of the Gospel, and inspire unity. He will provide encouragement and guidance for church leaders and committees in planning, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of the church. The pastor will encourage, coordinate and supervise the ministries and efforts of the pastoral and support staff. He will provide leadership in developing and recommending strategic goals and actions and have skills to motivate lay leaders to achieve these goals.
Our next pastor will be a man of prayer — warm, outgoing, friendly, approachable, and able to relate to all age groups. His style of leadership shall be characterized more by influence and persuasion than by control and coercion. He will be inclusive in spirit and a proponent of the historic Baptist distinctives, including the primacy of scriptures, the dignity and worth of every person, the priesthood of the believer, freedom of conscience, and religious liberty.
He will be comfortable leading in a variety of worship styles, demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ to others with an open and caring spirit. He will recognize the heritage of First Baptist Church of Las Cruces and seek out ways to create an open, hospitable, and discipling atmosphere for seekers who are unfamiliar with basic Baptist beliefs and doctrines.
